The wearable art clothing items are all dyed and painted by myself in my home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I sew many of the garments myself using French inside seams preventing seam edges from unraveling and assuring the garment is long lasting. I use natural cloth such as 100% cotton homespun, linen/cotton mixes, silk and rayon. The rayon cloth I use is especially soft and drapes wonderfully - all who wear it love this cloth.
Darleen’s jewelry mixes contemporary and ethnic beads collected in places like Yemen, Ethiopia, Afghanistan and Central Asia. These necklaces harmonize with the dyed and painted clothing and together with the purses these accessories will enhance any outfit. Sales of artisans products supports indigenous producers keep their crafts alive. Her mixed media paintings depict a love of pattern, color, vibrant textures and reflects her life and work in cultures where pattern and color dominate all forms of art.
